ONCE UPON A TIME ...

there were two hard-drinking Mexicans who had no time for rules and recipes and who created a truly Mexican beer in a hacienda near San Miguel de Allende. These two gentlemen  were called Señor Guzman and Señor Gonzalez. They took the finest ingredients from local farmers and mixed them with the best groundwater from their own well to create an  unmistakably Mexican brew.

Since the bootlegging era, we have continued to bring flair to the ongoing refinement of the Guzman y Gonzalez recipe, and today we brew the Mexican  beer in Germany in the name of its two creators.

The true Story

This could be the story of Guzman y Gonzalez you might hear. But that would be pure fiction – and the truth is even more exciting. The creation of Guzman y Gonzalez proves how  cultural diversity can give rise to unique flavours: it was immigrants from Europe who brought the art of beer brewing to Mexico in the mid–18th century. Newcomers and locals  worked together to build on the tried–and–tested techniques, refining traditional recipes with American ingredients. Fortified with a dash of “mañana”, the incomparable Mexican way of life, a whole new beer culture was born.

Over time, this authentic Mexican approach to brewing and enjoying beer has become a proud tradition in its own right.

Guzman y Gonzalez is brewed in Chemnitz

The beer was originally produced in Mexico and imported to Germany. Now it has come full circle and is brewed in Germany according to a Mexican recipe. Local master brewers adhere strictly to the New World specifications, bottling the liquid soul of Mexico with German fastidiousness. This uniquely rigorous and easygoing approach results in an  unparalleled flavour: Guzman y Gonzalez is fullbodied and confident, yet has a characteristic ease. This Mexican beer defies fleeting fashions and trends and is perfect for any occasion. The laid-back way of life, which can still be tasted in every sip of Mexican beer today, inspires beer lovers all over the world and ultimately inspired Germans to create Guzman y Gonzalez in the early 21st century.

A Revolution

Guzman y Gonzalez is brewed in Chemnitz, formerly known as Karl-Marx-Stadt, where you can still marvel at the world’s largest bust of Marx (which, incidentally, is also the second  largest portrait bust in the world). Perhaps it is the aura of the revolutionary theorist that is now inspiring Guzman y Gonzalez to revolutionise the international beer scene. The first target  of the campaign is China – a thirsty realm with limitless potential. Beer has been popular in China for many years and the country’s people are known to be interested in new and  exciting things. Guzman y Gonzalez’ wonderful Mexican-German blend is the right drink at the right time.
